Carl Fay - 7/12/37 - 27/09/09Carl Fay, R.I.P., was the driving force behind the establishment of Changing Times, encouraging his daughter Jean to get up and do something in theatre again, after several years away studying. The piece below is some of the obituary that appeared in a newspaper. May he rest in peace.
Carl hailed from Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary, from a family of six, and was predeceased by his two brothers, Billy and Edwin. He lived in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford since the early 1960’s and in 1965 married Patsy (nee Mullins). They were married for 44 years, and had one son, Edwin, and two daughters, Jean and Karla. Carl joined Waterford Foods in 1974, and he held a position there as human resource manager until his retirement in 1999. In 1997, at the age of 57, Carl successfully completed an M.A. in Human Resources and Industrial Relations at Keele University, England. After he retired, he went on to serve as a mediator on the Employment Appeals Tribunal for six years which he very much enjoyed. Carl was highly respected in his field of work. He was one of the early members of Dungarvan Lions Club, serving as secretary of the club for a number of years which he carried out in a very meticulous manner. He helped on every occasion for all events and was a very loyal member for many years. Carl was an avid sports enthusiast, was founder member of the Rock Rovers Soccer Club in Carrick-on-Suir and was an early member of Minnies Squash Club. He enjoyed a game of golf and was a member of Ballinacourty Golf Club and later Knocknagranagh Golf Club, where he won many prizes. He was a great fan of Reading Football Club and was a loyal supporter for 50 years. He loved nothing more than watching their matches with his two grandsons, Alex and Gregory. He also loved horse racing, and enjoyed an odd bet on a Saturday. Carl was a very unassuming man, and he was a friend to a lot of people. He went about his business quietly, but always got the job done. He was first and foremost a family man, and we sympathise with his wife Patsy, son Edwin, daughters Jean and Karla, sisters Kathleen Smyth (Clonmel), Una Clifford (Foynes) and Berna Moloney (Dungarvan), daughter in law Blanaid, sons in law Loren Harnett and Paul Twomey, his grandchildren Alex, Gregory, Ella and Olivia Fay, and Faye and Alison Twomey, a wide circle of other relatives including brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and many friends. |
